Directions to “THE MUSES”
(From I-10 coming from the west)

Coming in on I-10 from the west, you will pass through Baton Rouge which is about an hour from New Orleans. As you continue towards New Orleans on I-10 you will pass the airport exits. When you get to the city limits the highway will fork. The left fork is “Exit 230”; take the right fork following signs that say “New Orleans Business District” into the city.

When you see a sign that says “Business 90 West - Westbank - Claiborne Avenue” get into the far left lane. BEAR LEFT ON TO “BUSINESS 90 WEST.” You stay in the left lane and take “90 Business West” exit which is “Exit 234C”. You will see the Superdome directly to your left.

As you get onto “90 West”, the first exit will come up immediately to your right. It is “Carondelet - St. Charles”. Take this exit and, at the bottom of the ramp, continue forward. Magazine Street is about four blocks ahead of you with a traffic light at each corner. The first light, at the bottom of the exit ramp, is at Carondelet Street. The second red light is at St. Charles Avenue.

There are then two lights immediately following each other at Margaret Street and Camp Street and a fifth light on Magazine Street. At this fifth light, turn right onto Magazine Street. I am about four or five blocks down on the right side of the street. The number “1455” is on the transom over the front door.

Remember that this is an historic district and we are not allowed signage so do not look for a sign. The house is a double gallery townhouse painted a light gray-green with white trim. A pair of large Southern Magnolias is planted adjacent to the street. There is a pair of Chinese Temple Dogs flanking the steps up to the front door. There are also Italian terracotta flowerpots on the porch containing palms.

Slidell is located about 30 or 40 minutes from my house and it takes about 10 minutes to cross the lake on the I-10 Bridge. As you cross the lake, continue towards New Orleans on I-10 following signs that say “New Orleans Business District” into the city.

You will pass several exits and cross the 17th Street Canal Bridge as you enter the city. Shortly after, the highway will divide with “Business 90 West” on the left and “I-10 West Baton Rouge” on the right. As you approach the downtown area you will pass the “Orleans - Vieux Carre” exit as well as the “Canal Street - Superdome” exit.
