The Victorian Room

Upon entering this lush green retreat, with the huge carved mahogany Victorian half-tester bed, you immediately step back into the Victorian era.

Cool tones of malachite green greet you, along with the dark jewel-tones of blue and red Imari porcelain, which make up part of your host’s personal collection of fine antiques. An eclectic mix of 19th-century “finds,” rich Oriental rug, the home’s original slate mantle and unusual works of art evoke the “chinoiserie” that Victorians so loved.

The cobalt-blue-and-white of an ensuite bathroom sets off the antique pedestal sink and claw-foot bathtub, which also has a riser for those who prefer to take a shower.

The Creole Room

A massive Victorian carved walnut bed with Creole-style mosquito netting forms the focal point of this simply furnished but elegant room.

Neutral shades complement pale-gray-green walls painted the color of Spanish moss, thereby creating a peaceful feeling. Floor-to-ceiling walk-through windows open onto a small balcony that overlooks the courtyard and a garden bursting with indigenous Louisiana plantings.

The carefully refurbished exposed brick fireplace contrasts with the luster of an original polished-slate mantle and soft tones of an antique Oriental rug. Original artworks, fine furniture and interesting Victorian collectibles make you feel as though you’ve come to stay at an artist’s atelier while visiting “Paris on the Mississippi.”

The small ensuite bathroom has a glass-enclosed shower and all necessary amenities.
